Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Films are a powerful medium for shaping public opinion and influencing behaviors, including political engagement. In Nigeria, where youth constitute a significant portion of the electorate, films that depict political themes can profoundly impact voting behavior by raising awareness about civic responsibilities, election processes, and the importance of informed choices (Mohammed & Yakubu, 2023). In Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State, where political engagement is critical for development, understanding the influence of film on youths’ voting behavior provides valuable insights into leveraging media for democratic participation.
